Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)

Frequently Asked Questions about TRT

What is Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)?

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) is a medical treatment that involves supplementing the body with hormones that it's no longer producing or is not producing enough of for optimal health.

It's commonly used to treat menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes, by replenishing the body's declining levels of estrogen and progesterone.

Hormone replacement therapy can help men increase their testosterone levels if they show signs of low testosterone, such as erectile dysfunction and infertility.

Reno Premier Medicine also uses TRT to treat conditions related to hormone imbalance, such as thyroid disorders.

There are different forms of hormone replacement therapy, including pills, patches, gels, and injections. While HRT can be highly effective in managing symptoms, it's not without its risks, so it's important to weigh the potential benefits and drawbacks carefully.

What are the benefits of Testosterone Replacement Therapy?

Hormone replacement therapy offers a range of benefits for individuals dealing with a hormone imbalance. TRT can alleviate several symptoms and allows individuals to feel more comfortable by supplementing the body with various hormones, such as testosterone or estrogen. Hormone replacement therapy patients may also experience:

  • Increased libido
  • Better weight management
  • Improved skin texture and appearance
  • Fewer mood swings
  • More energy throughout the day

Hormone replacement therapy can also have significant impacts on your bones, reducing the risk of bone-related concerns like osteoporosis. HRT may also improve brain function in some and reduce the risk of dementia.

Historically, men only lived an average of 35 years and did not need prolonged testosterone production.

How does hormone replacement therapy differ in men compared to women?

Hormone replacement therapy can be used for both men and women, but the goals and treatment methods differ between the sexes. For men, HRT often addresses the symptoms of low testosterone, which can include fatigue, decreased libido, and muscle loss. Testosterone replacement therapy can lead to improved energy levels, mood, and sexual function.

In women, Reno Premier Medicine uses hormone replacement therapy to treat the symptoms of menopause. Estrogen and progesterone can be administered together or separately and may be taken orally, applied topically, or inserted vaginally.

While the goals of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) differ between men and women, the underlying principle remains similar: To replenish the body's declining levels of hormones and improve the overall quality of life.
